Chevy still looks like a puppy so it’s hard to believe that he’s 10 years old. This beautiful German shepherd came into our life by chance and we couldn’t have been luckier. German shepherds are the most loyal, loving, and protective dogs.
Chevy was a rescue. My dad found him on the road after he had been hit by a car and rushed him to the vet to have his leg fixed up and put in a cast. Chevy’s owners said they would have put him down then and there, and he was only a puppy. My Dad brought him home, and we had a new family member. Chevy has been loyal to my Dad since that day, and loves him more than anybody in this world. Chevy battled leukemia when he was 5, spent weeks in an emergency animal hospital, and finally won. He blew out a knee, had another surgery, and made a full recovery.
Unfortunately Chevy was diagnosed with bone cancer and can barely walk. Letting him go will be one of the hardest things we’ve ever had to do. I’ll miss him outsmarting us all, him whining outside my bedroom door at 6am to let him in so he can keep an eye on things, waking up to him licking my face, his guilty look when he’s eaten something he shouldn’t have, and his genuine love for my family and I.
Home is where the dog is, and our home will never be the same without you Chevy.
